Establishment of "Sulfur Utilization on Lithium-ion Battery Knowledge Exchange Network" for Practical Application of Next-Generation Battery

Apr. 01, 2024

ADEKA is pleased to announce the establishment on April 1 of the " Sulfur Utilization on Lithium-ion Battery Knowledge Exchange Network" in collaboration with the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (Representative Director) and Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd. The Osaka Research Institute of Industrial Science and Technology participated as the lead organization at the time of establishment.

We have developed SPAN ; the product name is ADEKA AMELANSA SAM series, a metal-free sulfur-based cathode active material, which is an important component of the lithium-sulfur battery.

We will continue to promote the development of applications for SPAN and other battery materials to challenge the early commercialization of next-generation rechargeable batteries and contribute to a sustainable society.

About SPAN

Effective use of energy with batteries is essential to achieve carbon neutrality. In addition to improving the performance of the currently popular lithium-ion battery, it is hoped that next-generation rechargeable batteries that use new materials and processes will be introduced to the market.
We are focusing on lithium-sulfur battery, which are the next-generation batteries featuring light weight. Therefore, we are developing a metal-free sulfur-based polymer SPAN ; the product name is ADEKA AMELANSA SAM series used as a cathode active material for the lithium-sulfur battery. ADEKA has been the first in the world to study the manufacturing process and mass production of SPAN, and has succeeded in synthesizing more than 100 kg per year, and is challenging further scale-up.
