The company merged with its subsidiary Tokai DenkaKogyo Co., Ltd. On April 1, 1999 for the purpose of expanding and strengthening its management foundation.

Tokai Denka Kogyo was established in 1959 under the technical tieup with FMC Corporation, U.S.A.for the purpose of manufacturing hydrogen peroxide. Tokai Denka has expanded its business line to its derivative products and persulfates, and in particular grown to be the second largest producer of hydrogenperoxide in Japan.
Asahi Denka acquired the total shareholdings of FMC Corporation in 1996, and since then both companies have been discussing how to strengthen its management capability. As a result, both companies merged on April 1, 1999 with the aim to expanding and strengthening the management foundation, exhibiting synergetic effects in R & D and acceleration of overseas marketing, enhancing operation efficiency and positively developing business activities.
The possible synergetic merits of merger can be cited as follows:
Its product offering particularly in the fields of paper and pulp market and printed circuit board market are broadened by integrating the product lines with Asahi Denka's existing product lines.
In R & D, Tokai Denka has an accumulation of technology in hydrogen peroxide and other peroxygen products. A combination of Asahi Denka's possessedexcellent organic synthesis and Tokai Denka's oxidation technology would foster further development of technologies and promotion of research and development. Since Tokai Denka has been placing emphasis on the development of applications of hydrogen peroxide for information-related chemicals, above all, electronics materials, there would be a synergetic effect with Asahi Denka's electronic materials.
