Asahi Denka handled 57 PRTR target substances in FY2004. Discharge to air was 8.1t, 1.2t (13%) decrease over the previous FY. Discharge to water was 1.0t, a 0.2t increase. There was no discharge to soil. The transported amount was 410t, a 34t (8%) decrease.
Reduction of discharge to air was achieved through CO2 emission reduction in Sohma factory, as a result of strengthened production process management.
The top 9 substances of emission and transportation are indicated in the chart aside. Asahi Denka has been trying to improve the accuracy of data by introducing automated calculation systems and evaluating the coefficients every year. Data include that of Oxirane Chemical Corporation, in addition to 6 Asahi Denka factories and 3 regional labs from FY2004 (FY2003 results).
As a member of Japan Chemical Industry Association, Asahi Denka has continuously been making efforts on research of 480 JCIA PRTR regulation target substances, including 354 PRTR and law target substances prior to enforcement of PRTR law.

Environmental Pollutant Discharge Management

Reduction efforts of environmental pollutant discharge have been made. FY2004 results are as follows:

Air Pollutant Discharge
Air Pollutant discharge, such as SOx, NOx, and soot and dust is indicated in the graph below. SOx emission was reduced to 1/9 through introduction of co-generation system at Fuji factory and introduction of gas boiler at Mie factory. Soot and dust discharge increased due to production increase at Chiba and Mie factory. Data of each factory is managed based on self management standards.

Discharged Water and COD Management
As shown in the graph below, the amount of discharged water increased, while COD discharge decreased. COD discharge reduction was achieved in Kashima factory. Data collection on BOD and factories overseas started in 2003. Results of FY2004 were SOx 3t, NOx 1t, COD 3t, and BOD 2t.

Amount of Air Pollutants
Dust and Soot Measurement (Chiba Factory)
Water Discharge and COD/BOD
Gas Boiler (Mie Factory)
