Top CSR Framework Environmental Protection and Safety of Logistics

  In order to minimize environmental burden of logistics, a modal shift has been promoted and CO2 emission of transportation has been monitored.

Change in Modal Shift Modal Shift Progress
  Adeka Logistics Co., Ltd, which conducts logistics of Asahi Denka Group, has been promoting a modal shift to vessel shipment from trucking. In FY 2004, vessel shipment to Fukuoka from Kashima factory increased by 47% over the previous FY. Gross vessel shipment from Kashima factory, including those to Sapporo was 6,803t, a 39% increase over the previous FY.

CO2 Emission Reduction of logistics CO2 Emission Reduction of logistics
  Asahi Denka has been monitoring product transported quantity, transported distance, fuel amount, and CO2 emissions, and working to reduce CO2 emissions of logistics. Logistics CO2 emissions totaled 5,144,000t in FY2004. This is an aggregation of transportation borne by alliance freight companies, Kyokushin Freight Co., Ltd. and Kishida Freight Co., Ltd.

Safety Conference
Food SP Conference (Kashima Factory)Safety Conference  gNationwide Safety Conferenceh for alliance freight companies was held in June and November 2004. Participants studied measures for logistic accident elimination.
  Nationwide SP* Conference for alliance shipping storage companies was held since FY2003. Nationwide SP Conference and Food SP Conference were held in Kashima factory, Chemical SP Conference was held in Mie factory. Participants observed product shipping facilities of each factory, in addition to product feature training and accident case presentations.
  Emergency call training was carried out in Adeka Logistics Co., Ltd, Fuji branch office, out of regret that deleterious substance leakage at a subcontracted freight company occurred (Ryugasaki, Ibaragi). Steps and Procedures of emergency call and reporting to various stakeholders were affirmed.

  In the Nationwide Safety Conference held in June, alliance freight companies pointed out that there are some dangerous delivery processes and delivery facilities. We carried out research on the current situation of delivery safety in cooperation with alliance freight companies.
  As a result, 97 critical points were identified. These critical points were categorized depending on level of danger; S, and A-C. We have been working on further research of the critical points and are requesting improvement in cooperation with the sales divisions in charge.
