Digest
3 Management Systems Operation
Kashima Factory had obtained 3 Management Systems certification such as Environmental Management System: ISO14001, Labor Safety and Health Management System: OHSAS18001 and Quality Management System: ISO9001.
We are working on obtaining IMS (Integrated Management System) certification which gathered these systems for efficient and effective management.

Industrial Waste Reduction
For Industrial Waste, we continue to reduce environmental burden by making efficient use of recycle and selling the material as resource and trying not to generate wastes as much as possible.
In FY 2007, we have achieved 29% reduction of waste compared to FY 2005 exceeding the set goal of 10% reduction considerably.
We also have achieved 100% recycling ratio and zero emission (no land-fill waste) since FY 2006.

Received Award for the Effective Utilization of White Clay Waste
Industrial waste had been reduced substantially by two measures as follows:
White clay waste generated in the oil manufacturing factory is utilized as a valuable water-repellent building material. Another measure is the utilization of white clay waste as a fermentation accelerator for livestock excretion at farms.
For these measures, JRCC Responsible Care Prize was awarded from Japan Chemical Industry Association in July 2008.

The Kyoto Protocol Goal of 6% Reduction Achieved
Specific energy consumption unit was decreased by 1.5% in FY 2007 compared to FY 2005. However the set goal of 2% reduction in FY 2007 has not been achieved. So we continue to reduce energy consumption considering energy saving technology to achieve the goal.
CO2 emission amount was decreased by 19% in FY 2007 compared to FY 1990, the base year of Kyoto Protocol and we had achieved the goal of Kyoto Protocol, CO2 emission amount reduction by 6%. We continue to work on the global warming prevention through promoting energy saving measures.

Response to an Emergency Situation
It is important to ensure safety of local community by stable and reassured operation.
In our factory, we have constantly educated and trained employees in each section including "health and safety cooperation association" to prepare for various emergency situations and to minimize damage for unpredictable situations such as earthquake and natural disasters.
Also we organize internal training self-defense fire team and carry out trainings with related companies for emergent response in entire plant.

Cooperation System in Companies in the Industrial Complex
Information exchange: we are working on environmental improvement by participating in "General Affairs and Environmental Measures Communication Conference" organized by the companies in the industrial complex to exchange environmental information.
Patrol: Kashima common facility (joint company by several complex companies seeks to detect and deal with unusual situation early among the companies by patrolling in the complex.
Emergency Contact: "Contact Chart" by telephone or wireless network is built and used to contact each other and government offices for emergency call in case unusual accidents happen in the complex.
