Kashima factory has been actively working on the development of new-generation products. Semiconductor-related products such as electronic materials from our organic division have been booming.

Sustainment and Continuance of Zero EmissionFermentation Accelerating Treatment System
Kashima factory has continued to achieve zero emission since 2004. As a measure of minimizing waste generation, white clay waste generated in the oil manufacturing factory is utilized as a valuable water-repellent building material. Another measure is the utilization of white clay waste as a fermentation accelerator for livestock excretion at farms.
* White Clay Waste: Activated earth is used to decolorize edible oil and detergent fat and oil. Used activated earth is called white clay waste. As it contains oil and moisture, its waste treatment is complicated.

Energy Saving Activities
In order to reduce energy consumption and units of CO2 emission, energy saving efforts are promoted. Examples of projects are quantity control of instrument operation, adequate temperature control of heat insulation for tanks, and strengthening air conditioning management. As a result, energy consumption decreased by 4% compared to the previous year, and CO2 emission decreased by 3.4%.

Education and Training on Environment and Safety
Seminars on practical skills and courses on compliance were held ten times as on-the-job training; 189 participants attended that included employees in-house and cooperative company employees. For further improvement of training system, the learning center will be improved and in-house training will be considered.

Health and Safety Activity Case: Campaign against
