Digest

The Mie Factory acquired ISO9002 accreditation, an international certification that a company conforms to certain quality management system standards, as early as May 1993. Consistent with a review of this standard, the Factory completed the transfer from ISO9002 to ISO9001 certification in July 2002. On this basis, the Mie Factory continues to pursue the highest standards in quality assurance management.

While engaging in 5S activities as the bedrock for its overall CSR activities, the Mie Factory has established three core management systems that focus on concern for the environment, safety and hygiene. In this manner, we are promoting a robust management structure and system that strives to instill a strong sense of security and peace of mind among local residents, customers and the working populace. Launched in 2006, the Mie Factory has also promoted MPI-200, a three-year activity aimed at nurturing human resources while at the same time enhancing productivity. Complementing the benefits generated by MPI-200, the Mie Factory also serves as a technical support center that provides engineering guidance and assistance to affiliated companies and factories located overseas.

The Mie Factory places the utmost emphasis on ensuring that each and every employee is fully aware and conversant with environmental management systems. Working not as individuals, but as a part of a structured organization, we work to clearly define roles, responsibilities and authority. Each department and division is required to formulate an education and training plan that strives to raise individual capabilities while at the same time continuously improving the environment. Activities are then implemented in line with each plan. Weight is also placed on the acquisition of external qualifications and in this regard employees of the Mir Factory boast a variety of certified skills. In its efforts to prevent disasters and accidents, the Mie Factory has historically implemented Hiyari-Hat (Human Error) as well as the proprietary STOP-MIE activities. Following a spate of incidents during September 2009, we took steps to reinforce monthly safety campaigns as well as inspections by management and supervisors. Complementing these endeavors, the Mie Factory has adopted countermeasures to prevent the recurrence of individual incidents. As a result, incidents have been held to a single minor accident since September.

In similar fashion to the environmental and safety activities conducted by the Company's manufacturing divisions, Adeka places equal emphasis on environmental conservation and safety concerns as it engages in both logistics and transportation functions. As a part of these endeavors, and in collaboration with transportation companies, we are promoting the Idling Stop Campaign. In addition, because many of the Factory's products are designated as hazardous materials under the Fire Defense Law, emergency reporting drills are regularly carried out in preparation for accidents that may occur during transportation in accordance with yellow cards carried at all times. Furthermore, in efforts to ensure that products are delivered safely to customers, we work diligently to avoid traffic accidents. In this regard, regular checks are conducted by the National Organization for Automotive Safety & Victim's Aid.

The Mie Factory undertakes a wide range of environmental protection activities.
We ask for your kind cooperation in observing the following items.
- After completing the necessary steps to gain entry, we ask that you promptly proceed to the designated place of delivery
- When moving from point to point, we ask that you refrain from unnecessary idling, sudden acceleration and braking
- On arrival at the point of delivery, we ask that you immediately stop your engine

At the request of a local junior high school, the Mie Factory accepted two student interns in fiscal 2008 between November 12 and November 14.

Each Monday morning, members of the Mie Factory serve as crossing guards at two local intersections to ensure the safety of elementary and junior high school students.
