Digest

Implementing an integrated management system (IMS) entails efforts to ensure that existing systems are managed in a uniform manner. Working toward the overarching objective to unify the three ISO9001, ISO14001 and OHSA18001 management systems, the Fuji Factory commenced preparatory steps in January 2009 with the aim of acquiring accreditation in November 2009.

The Fuji Factory has incorporated a green purchasing policy within its overall procurement systems particularly with regard to office supplies and equipment. Wherever possible, the Factory is committed to procuring environmentally friendly products on a priority basis in an effort to reduce environmental load. In specific terms, the Fuji Factory has achieved high rates of green purchasing. In fiscal 2008, the ratio of green purchases to total purchases of stationery reached 93% with non-stationery items rising to 91%.

- Introduced a cogeneration system (CGS) in August 2008, which contributed to a substantial improvement in total volume (crude oil equivalent amount) and basic unit of energy consumption.
- Upward spiral in total volume (crude oil equivalent amount) and basic unit of energy consumption since fiscal 2004 attributable to increased production volumes of products that consume large amounts of energy
- Installed energy recovery and recycling facilities as a part of the Factory's Energy Service Company (ESCO) Program in fiscal 2007. Secured a 1.4% reduction (improvement) in unit per production compared with the previous fiscal year
- Buffeted by the impacts of the global recession since fiscal 2008, the Fuji Factory has been forced to suspend and / or engage in inefficient repetitive operations. This has resulted in a significant drop in capacity utilization. Based on the aforementioned, unit per production deteriorated considerably despite a decrease in energy consumption unit per production equivalent to crude oil. At present, steps are being taken to verify the positive flow-on effects following the upgrade of electrolysis equipment and facilities. Expectations of a positive result remain high.

Employees of the Fuji Factory continue to call on welfare facilities to participate in a variety of events. Members have helped in the making of pounded rice, enjoying the fruits of their labor together with the delicious treats of miso soup with pork and vegetables.
